FERROLUAR

The work of Raúl and Toni Martínez is developed somewhere among robotics, mechanics,  kinetic sculpture and engineering trough the use of recycling. Their exhibition “Vida Acuatica” (Aquatic Life) wants the user to dive almost literally in a mechanic sea which its inhabitants are fish, crabs, seahorses and seaweed, a metallic ecosystem ready for user interaction. The sculptures/ Machines that are suggested by the Martínez brothers, who come from the Fine Arts and Industrial engineering fields, are pieces that are neither cold nor incomprehensible, they are not autorreferencial exercises in volumes and lines, they are an interpretation of nature through the work with recycled mechanic pieces whose purpose is to entertain and amuse all kinds of audiences, something that art forgets too often.

Luthiers Drapaires

There are various trends that are being developed in almost every field of the everyday life, like the Do it Yourself, recycling or the De-Growth? philosophy. The environment of the electronic musical creation is also aware of those trends and works actively in this direction thanks to the great amount of tecnologic residues that we human beings produce daily and the Open Hardware philosophy, that gives us the opportunity to get the technologic knowledge that allows this kind of work to be developed, and communities like the social network Open Hardware/Arduino. In the heart of the Audiovisual Community Telenoika appears another fantaboulous project: L’orquestra dels Luthiers Drapaires or ” The rag and bone luthiers”. Containers, rubbish dumps, or the street itself are the sources of mechanic and technologic materials useful for the construction of musical instruments through recycling and recuperation. And here is where the creative machinery starts to run and the Luthiers start designing mechanical systems, prototiping circuit boards and investigating the acoustic possibilities of their “junk” finds. The Luthiers Drapaires show that electronic art and music need talent and lots of want-to, not the last version of the fanciest modular software or the ultimate synthesizer. Up tho the moment this collective has participated in Sónar, FADE festival and have enjoyed an artist in residence in the Bòlit Centre d’Art Contemporani in Girona.

Ricardo Iglesias

Where are the borders between security, the right to intimacy and voyeuristic sickness? The limits are elastic and we could discuss endlessly about this three concepts, that Ricardo Iglesias toys with in an installation called “Surveillance Cameras”: They are alive!!!” The installation wants to provide a critical point of view in the growing number of surveillance cameras that are being installed by governments, local administrations and private institutions and the preceding work of collectives, such as the “Sourveillance Camera Players”, that have been since mid nineties, making diverse actions and reliable maps of the situation and orientation of the security cameras in various cities of the United States, as well as internationally. Since 2003 with the installation “In the Dark.Information, control and manipulation” along with Gerald Kogler, Ricardo has been working with diverse automatic systems and robotic devices to imagine creations that toy with the concepts of public-private, action-reaction. “Surveillance Cameras: They are alive!!!” features a series of autonomous robots with a camera that chase people, film the visitors and project the images in situ and through the internet as well, in a proces open to the control of any user that connects tho the web.

Magdi Mostafa

Magdi Mostafa, an Egyptian artist, working in the field of multimedia (sound and visuals) since 2000, his main stream of work is based on a kind of research behind the minimal ambient sounds which recorded from the city streets or some places which has a featured (sound icons). He developed some sound installations in Cairo during the last 7 years, two of them won the awards of Egypt’s creativity festival (2007-2009), presented some live sound-visual shows in Cairo & Alexandria (2008-2009) & recently setting up a label for sound art production in Egypt.

Konic Thtr

How is that possible that Konic Thtr hadn’t made their presentation at Dorkbot yet? We asked ourselves that question and since Konic are now touring their new show, we couldn’t see a better ocasion to invite them to bring their stuff to Dorkbot. Konic Thtr have been investigating since the early nineties, the hibridation of the body on stage with the new technologies. They search for new languages based in the hibridation. Part of their research is focused in specific hardware and software development to be used on stage. Konic will show us some of the tools that they use in their shows. A true luxury!

Pad To Midi

One of the challenges that have today’s musicians is to have the ability to play an instrument and make music without worriying about the informatics. Simpli play and have fun. With this in mind, there are being created lots of electronic instruments, like “PAD TO MIDI” made by Drumanart. It consists in a panel with 16 pads and a microcontroller circuit. The machine can send MIDI messages in 8 independent channels and is able to direct up to 8 sinthesizers with their own midi channels, velocity values, notes, etc. Hitting the PAD with sticks or the fingers MIDI commands can be sent to change programs, commuters, buttons, and even switching between analogic and digital…. and this is just the beginning! you can find further information here: https://www.drumanart.com

The Huggable

Robert Toscano presents The Huggable™, a sophisticated robot featuring a full body sensitive skin with over 1500 sensors, a project he was part of as a student and developer at the MIT Media Lab. The Huggable™ is a new type of robotic companion being developed for healthcare, education, and social communication applications. The Huggable™ is designed to be much more than a fun interactive robotic companion. It is designed to function as a team member that is an essential member of a triadic interaction. Therefore, the Huggable™ is not designed to replace any particular person in a social network, but rather to enhance that human social network.

Hardware DIY by Jano and Diego de León

Jano and Diego de Leon will present us their newest projects of electronic crafts, developed from two opposed points of view: the academic one and the self taught one. They will present some of the possible options in sound generation with free hardware “do it yourself” On the one hand we’ll see the “Farophono” (a modular synthesizer specially created to be syncronized with the lighthouses lights) that belongs to the project Sonom (https://www.sonom.org). On the other hand the recycled toys of Diego de Leon (https://diegoeldeleon.blogspot.com). A more playful vision of electronica. The presentation will close with a little show performance of the possibilities of these machines.

Lecto sensorial multiplicity helmet by Leandro Monasterio

In a world of growth of the hypermedia of the multimedia stimuli, the insertion of a device that allows to bring reading to a level further away from the written words is totally possible. The everyday insulating elements of the day to day, is getting more and more common, the appearance of technological objects like mp3 reading devices, cell phones etc, that insulate the individual from the person to person contact make not only plausible the appearance of devices such as the LECTO-SENSORIAL MULTIPLICITY HELMET, but also justified and necessary. To attach to the body an element of autonomy with the world. Its bubble shape, its individual use, its future independence of connection, highlights this feature of personal insulation. The project consists in a helmet that is used while reading. The creation of a device that performs and shows the translation of a text in sensorial stimuli (sound and vibration) simultaneously.

Flying Moon por Julio Lucio

Flight control of a ball interacting with an audience”
In this installation the flight of a ball (balloon) is controlled by a series of fans When we place a balloon over vertical air current, this will keep itself over it due to the difference of pressure. Using a surface built with fans, a camera is placed on the top and facing downwards. This camera perceives the position of the balloon over the surface and the localization of the audience that’s around. In the model of artificial intelligence of the ball there will be two situations:
1) when there are no people around, the ball will move randomly over the surface
2) when there is an audience a function of “shyness” will be calculated, and will decide towards who in the audience the ball would move, the ball will be less shy to approach to the least crowded groups of audience and towards the least moving ones.
The installation is thought in a modular manner. Building modules of 32 fans (8 wide per 4 long) connecting them, we could design flight surfaces depending on the space where the installation is placed.

EXPERIMENTAL TELEVISION STUDIO
Neokinok- A/V 8×8
By Daniel Miracle
The “NKTV-A/V 8×8” is an audiovisual analogic mixing console in a prototype state. The device can be used for both mixing televsion programs or videojamming sessions, because it allows a dynamic managing up to 8 video and audio sources in stereo, for input and output. You can connect cameras and video and audio players for automatic mixing, establishing different rhythms in the video channels, secuentially or in a random manner. This automatization of the mixing process can be combined with user interaction, allowing the possibility to create participative tv formulas. The machine uses the audio and video sources and sensors both input and output in an experimental way from the mixes MUX and MIX.

LALALAB.ORG por Clara Boj + Diego Diaz
he versatile Valencian artists who recently have created the platform of Dorkbot Valencia will present/display their last works to us. Clara Boj and Diego Diaz combine their artistic activity in solitaire with projects in collaboration since year 2000. Its work is mainly centered in the observation of the public space and the diverse transformations (architectonic, technological, functional, social, …) resultants of the incorporation of the new technologies to the space of the routine character, from which they generate facilities that combine physical and virtual qualities to try to generate bows of continuity between the old ones and the new forms of social relation, between old and the new spaces of communication.
